“Small Plates and Sweet Treats” published and a giveaway

I cannot believe that the official publication day for “Small Plates and Sweet Treats” has arrived.

It has taken two years for this book to see the light. Two years of intense dedication that actually, never even felt like work. It was such an organic process and wonderful collaboration with my editor Michael Sand at Little, Brown.

To celebrate the official release of “Small Plates and Sweet Treats”, I will be giving away 10 copies of the book.

All you have to do is leave a comment and share with me what you have enjoyed the most about this blog throughout the years. I would love to hear your thoughts, experiences and what you have learned (hopefully I have inspired some!).

The giveaway will end on Monday. October 29th at 12:00pm EST and I will announce the winners shortly after.

I was looking through my archives at all the photos I have taken for the book and I thought it would be fun to share some outtakes. There were so many of them… I found it hard to pick.

Also, a reminder that I will be at Book Larder in Seattle tomorrow at 6:30pm telling a bit of my story and signing books. If you are in the area, stop by and say hello.

I will also be live on New Day Northwest (King 5) tomorrow morning cooking a recipe from the book. I hope you can tune in.

You can order the book from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Anthropologie, IndieBound and your local bookstores.

Thank you for your constant support.

This book would not have happened without you.

your website is so fresh and nice that I totally feel inspired by all your photographs. i’ve seen a lot of bloggers around the world are trying to copy your style, but its easy to see the copy-cat rather than a unique style.
good luck with your new book

I love the blog for the simple reason that you make the fact that living without gluten something more easy. I mean, it is not easy to find interesting and yummy receipts without gluten.
You make eating without gluten something “more easy and atractive”…
So thanks for all of that.
And for the pictures, that open my stomach every morning!

    Hi,

I’m eagerly awaiting your book ever since I noticed that it will be published.
When I found out that I have a celiac disease about a year ago, my world collapsed. I did not know what to cook or how to prepare the dishes to be as tasty, tempting and nicely prepared as “normal” food. Your blog with all the recipes and great ideas was and is truly inspiring – thank you.

  4. Anis says:

Aran, I am SO happy for you. I just want to thank you again for your availability because I never took for granted that you would ever answer my too many questions and I am grateful you did in SO many different occasions even when you were busy teaching workshops etc…and this helped me gather my family and friends around my table for memorable meals and this meant the world to me!

  5. Gaëlle B. says:

I am so so glad for you !!!! And I am so glad for me, because the book is on its way to my house (so it won’t be november after all, but probably the end of the week, which sounds so much better!!!!).

  6. Ellie Mac says:

Aran, your site is wonderful. I am rather new to Cannelle et Vanille, but I bookmarked it as soon as I saw your evocative, nostalgic images. As a young blogger about to embark on a career in food writing and styling, I find your work so inspiring. And most of all, I love seeing others who use these wonderful, natural ingredients for what they are; I also love showing off the amazing seasonal produce we are fortunate enough have access to. Keep up the beautiful work.

Aran, I have enjoyed reading (and cooking/baking from) your blog for two years now and there is so much to say about why I love it. But I will keep it short today and talk about your photography. It’s incredibly beautiful and captivating to look at. I feel grateful that you share your work with us, the thought you put in to styling your photos, the stories that it tells, and the experiences that we get to participate in through viewing it.

  9. Congratulations on publication day and an incredibly beautiful looking book!

  10. Congratulations! I would love to win a copy, but if I don’t, I will buy it!
I love your photography and the perfect blend of food and landscape photos.
Beauty and nostalgia are conjured up in all your images.
    Best wishes, Alison

  11. Alyce says:

I first read about you in Coastal Living. Being intolerant to gluten, I love finding new resources and recipes. Would love to dive into your new book:-)

  12. Angie says:

Aran, while I truly love your beautiful photos and recipes, I have to admit that my favorite part is the stories you share with us in your posts, like when you go home to Basque country, or to visit friends in Montana, or one of my favorites: when you went to the citrus orchard with your family this past summer. You are a natural born storyteller and the love for your family and friends just jumps out of the screen when I am reading, and you make us part of your family. Again congrats on the book. It’s been a long time in the making and you deserve all the success.

  13. Hey Aran,

    Congratulations for the book!

What I appreciate most is the way you make life easier to “gluten free” people. It seemed that living “gluten free” was boring and you changed that thought and remade a new tasty “gluten free” cuisine. Congratulations!

I also enjoy your photography. I like the colours as well as your plates or spoons!

Keep on working and I hope we could see you soon cooking with David de Jorge at Robinfood!

    Enjoy!

    :)

  14. Mojca says:

Dear Aran, congratulations! I’ve been following your blog for a few years now and every little post is like a ray of sunshine. The photography is stunning. Your recipes are tempting (and do-able) and definitely a proof that gluten-free food is neither boring nor bland. You make even those of us who don’t have a problem with gluten try out new flours, ingredients. Your story of following your dreams is inspiring. And, living abroad myself, so much of it reminds me of home, leaving it behind, visiting family, cooking things that remind me of people and places far away… I wish you all the best and am sure the book will find its way into many homes all over the world.

  15. Valerie Lefebvre says:

I’m soooo excited for this book to come out!!! Your recipes are always super inspiring and what I really like was that you propose great alternatives to people with gluten intolerance without making it look like it’s different. I feel I can have the exact same food than everybody else, thanks to you! And the photos…. Ouf! GORGEOUS! I really like what you’ve been doing on this blog. Every aspects look carefully chosen and that’s what your blog is so special! Congrats!

  16. Sarah Halstead says:

How amazing!! You have definitely inspired me with your food photography. That is not one of my strong suits. Beautiful.

  17. Sophie says:

    Congratulations!
Il love your blog, it’s so fresh and your pictures are so mouth-watering.
It looks like you’ve been back from the local market half an hour ago ; you’ve thrown some fresh fruits and vegetables in the saucepan and there you have a beautiful meal.
It seems easy to have such good looking meals but obviously it’s not!

And last but not least: it makes me want cooking and my family thanks you for that!

  18. robyn says:

    Hi aran,

The thing i most enjoy about your blog is the pictures and how the recipes are gluten-free! I literally wake up every morning and check your blog to see if you have posted something new. and if not, then i just look through all your recipes!
Thank you so much, you have inspired me to hopefully one day run a blog like yours once i graduate.
    thank you :)

I really love your photos of the Basque country and the Dordogne. You have inspired my husband and I to travel to new places and enjoy new foods. Thanks for your blog. I’d love to wind a copy of your book!

  20. Linley flugge says:

Thankyou for bringing out your beautiful book! I can’t wait to read through it. Love your photography an the simple cooking with beautiful ingredients..

  21. Jennifer says:

I really appreciate your story telling. Especially the pacing of them. I like that while I can get a recipe or be inspired, seduced, transported…what is unique is how you meander in your memories and deliver that eloquently. I feel connected to you, to food and to place when reading your posts. What more is there?

Oh, and you have some talent around propping a set and snapping a pic.

Congratulations on the book’s release. I look forward to reading it—all ways.

  22. Laura S. says:

I was smitten the first time I saw your site. Your photography is out of this world. Being such a visual person, I couldn’t help but become enchanted to try new foods and recipes. Even a shot of something simple like eggs, makes the wheels start turning of all that I could make. Bravo & congrats on the book!

  23. Amy johnson says:

Hello, Aran. I’m excited about your book!!! Your recipes and website have inspired me to try new food, but I have to say your dessert recipes are the ones that impressed me the most. I learned so much and am now thinking of culinary school!!! I’ve started accumulating applications already. Another thing is introducing me to the Japanese world. Your pictures and usage of cherry blossoms in one of your posts set me off on looking and experimenting in the wealth of Japanese desserts. Thank you so much!!!!

  24. Heidi says:

I’m one of those people who don’t much confidence as a cook, but enjoys tremendously looking at food blogs and ends up buying way too many cookery books. I’ve really enjoyed reading & especially looking, your blog for a while now. Although not diagnosed, I feel a lot better when I don’t eat gluten (I also have a sister who has celiac disease) and have tried to eat healthier foods recently. Also, a crisis inducing birthday is approaching and I thought I should finally learn to cook. I’m making this into a year long challenge to start with and I think many of the dishes I’ll attempt to learn to make will come from your blog as it’s very inspiring.

  25. Dulcistella says:

Your blog is really inspiring, and it’s hard to say what I enjoy the most… but I have to say I like very much your way to show the connection between delicious foods and nature. If you cook an apple cake you show apple trees, if you roast a fish there are pictures of the sea… it makes me dream of a simpler life.

  26. Chelsea S. says:

I love how your blog has helped me let the ingredients shine through in my recipes. What I enjoy most about the blog is the stunning photography of every dish. I would love to win a copy of your book!

  27. Muscade says:

Congrats and all the best for your book. I love your blog. Your pictures and recipes are simple, refreshing, joyful and this is everything I need with food.
I’m in for the giveaway, thanks!

  28. Tricia says:

I’ve just begun reading your blog and it’s one that I will continue to read. Your photography is beautiful, and reminds of the things I want to remember when I’m cooking and eating—the connection between our food and who we are, warm kitchens, the laughter of friends, open skies and fields, and a family’s love. Also, we don’t eat wheat, and I’m ever-greedy for blogs that share good recipes.

  29. For me it’s always been the photos. They bring your food to life and they transport me to a warm, sunny kitchen with the smell of food cooking! Big congrats on the book! Can’t wait to see it :)

  30. Sarah says:

    How exciting! Congratulations!
Your amazing photography definitely inspires me. Every time I visit I sigh and think WOW! :D There is a peace and a simplicity about your blog that I love.
I’m sure the cookbook will be phenomenal!

  31. Grace says:

Your book is absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing all of your recipes over the years. You have helped tremendously in my transition to gluten-free eating. You make eating gluten free look not only possible but simple, delicious and even decadent. Congratulation Aran!

  32. Vy says:

I love your stories and beautiful photography.

  33. Aleksandra Peyrer-Navijalic says:

I don’t know where to begin. I think what I admire the most about your blog is the freshness with which you cook, photograph and style your meals. I am not gluten-free but you make it enjoyable and even attractive to want to bake gluten-free. Not to mention all the journeys that you take us on in your life, exploring new places and cultures. Your life is inspiring and so is your photography. I know the cookbook will be a success!

  34. I just heard about you on Twitter, and after one glance at your photos, I’m hooked. I’ll be back again and again.

Books coming out! So much fun! My book just came out this week, too. I had no idea it was such a long process.

  35. Cristina says:

    Hi!
you’re so amazing and this goes beyond the blog.i like returning here every time i can to find the simple, yet complex recipes that make things less complicated and brighter:)
your way of cooking feels so natural that anyone can do it.for me, it is inspiring to discover healthier recipes.this kind of approach fits so well when referring especially on desserts.
and of course, the pictures make the difference!
congrats on your book…and many more to come!

  36. Melissa says:

Congratulations Aran, what an exciting day!

I love the updates on the blog- they look fantastic. I love everything about your blog but I have been most inspired by your photography, as photographing food is a passion of mine. Your use of colour, texture, pattern and your ability to capture beautiful moments in stunning light is always an inspiration, as is your ability to tell story through words and images.

Of course the recipes are fantastic too! So excited to dive into the cookbook. Big hugs and enjoy your time in Seattle.

  37. darci says:

It’s so hard to pick one thing! The beautiful presentation and photography, the fresh ingredients and delicious creations you have gifted your readers with over the years — much hope for many more years to come.

  38. jillian says:

thank you for being an inspiration :-)

  40. Cathryn says:

I would love this new book. This is such a lovely website and the amount of gorgeous gluten free recipes I have found on it have added to my recipe rotation at home.

  41. Sylvie says:

Oh! So exciting this giveaway! I hope I win it, but if not, will probably buy it. The pictures are out of this world and will entice anybody to make the recipes. Congratulations !

  42. Meghan Healy says:

Aran! I first found your blog because I traveled to Donostia and became obsessed with all things related to Basque food and culture and was drawn in by your lovely photos and presentation. Then last year, I moved from the States to Scotland and had a gluten-intolerant flatmate, so we often made your recipes together, and they were some of the only seriously tasty gluten-free treats we found! Through this blog, I’ve learned how to combine flours for good gluten-free baked goods, and I’ve learned to make some of my favorite Basque desserts. We have your arroz con leche at least twice a month and your arroz con leche cupcakes were a showstopper at a recent dinner party. I would love to enter for a free copy of your book! Eskerrik asko!

  43. Maria says:

You are so inspiring. Lovely pictures.

  44. Nimi says:

Your beautiful pictures is what first caught my attention, but it has been all your interesting and delicious recipes that has made your site a regular stop for me. The only thing that registered to me (cooking wise) when you moved to gluten free baking was that I had to buy ingredients I didn’t already have, in fact I think all these new flours and ingredients made your recipes look even more enticing to me. You continued to have a number of my favorite recipes (your chocolate teff cake is amazing), so when I finally found out I was gluten intolerant it didn’t seem like I was about to loss everything good and tasty. Having baked a lot of your recipes made the change easier for me, I was able to think of it a little more like a shift in style versus a complete elimination. I was very sad to to find out I will unfortunately have to miss your stop at the Book Larder, your site is the go to place for my husband and I whenever we are looking for something interesting to bake or trying get some ideas for a meal since we know it will be good.

  45. Jessica H. says:

Congratulations! The beauty of it all is inspiring and wonderful

  46. julianna says:

Congratulations!! I love the new blog design! and on your book also! Your blog is beautiful! i love the flavor combinations and the way that you make gluten free living feel more like a luxury than a burden. I love that you share your childhood memories.

  47. Megan says:

Congrats Aran, so exciting that the day is finally here! What I like best about your blog… where do I begin? I find constant inspiration in these posts, to eat healthier, cook with fresh ingredients, how to present food to make it look as good as it tastes, and more. It is a place I feel happy to visit each time you post, and I believe it will continue to be so for as long as you choose to keep it up! Thanks for all that you do!

  48. Impeccable timing with the redesign of your site! It’s so beautiful! But anyway, anything you do is so beautiful, Aran! I am picking up a copy of your cookbook at my local bookstore, but I’d LOVE to win another copy :) Perfect as a gift for my foodie friends who also love your site :) What I enjoy most is your photography, your refreshing styling (feels like a picnic every time), and of course, your wonderful gluten-free recipes which open up a whole new world of flavours for me! Congratulations and more power to yah!

  49. kathleen p. says:

in addition to the lovely photography, mouth-watering recipes, and exciting farm trips … the aspect of your work on the blog that i most love is the family dynamic of your cooking and food culture. it is a gift to see your sweet children involved with you in cooking and visiting farms (and featured in magazines!) and to imagine the bond that you have formed with them, at least partly through food-related experiences.

congrats on the publication of your book!

  50. Ana says:

    Ana

  51. Though I am fairly new to canelle et vanille, what I love about your blog are your recipes, certainly, but your amazing photographs! I don’t follow recipes very well, but it’s photographs that capture my imagination and inspire me to try new ways to cook food. Beautiful work!

  52. Agnes says:

To me, the best thing about following your blog is to be able to witness how your life and family is evolving with time, beautifully illustrated by your pictures. I especially love the photos with your kids and the photos from the countryside; I wish I could make such beautiful photos too :)
    Congratulations for your new book.

  53. Jolene says:

Congratulations on your book! I love your gluten-free recipes, and your photos, and would be thrilled to own a copy!

  54. Isabell says:

    Hi Aran!

Congrats on your gourgeous book. I must say that I am very selective when it comes to food blogs and Cannelle et Vanille is just breathtaking. The Photos, the recipes, the freshness, the memories told in such a beautiful manner and I also love the sense of family inherent in your blog posts.
    In a word: Perfection!

  55. Van says:

Food and Life and Beautiful Beautiful Photography!

  56. Bre says:

The photography, really goes without saying – the best. But what really sets you apart is your pursuit of the freshiest, local ingredients. You hit the farmer’s market, orchards, gardens, and vendors. I just love the straight-from-the-earth recipes!

  57. Gabrielle Sloan says:

I have enjoyed reading your blog not only because of the beautiful foods that you prepare and share with us all, but because of the simple pleasures you delight in. I feel like we’re kindred spirits and that makes me come back time and again…when you can write and photograph in a way that connects people, that is a wonderful thing. Thank you for the beauty of your blog and for the marvelous recipes. I always look forward to reading and trying out new recipes. Thank you!

  58. Laura says:

I’m so excited for your book. I most look forward to you amazingly beautiful photography. Oh, and the delicious recipes!

  59. Carrie Minns says:

Oh, Aran, I am so thrilled for you!
The publication of your book is so deserved. I come to your website multiple times a week mostly for the beauty of your photographs. When I just need a bit of solace or some calm, I peruse your posts and I alway come away feeling a bit more grounded than when I arrived. And while I’m not a gluten-free baker, I use your fruit and vegetable combinations as inspiration to create my own little treats. Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us!
    xo Carrie
PS: I love the lovely new look you’ve given your site.

  60. Emily says:

i love anything that makes gluten-free the norm; we typically don’t see gluten-free as something that can be tasty and beautiful. i’ve definitely been inspired to try making my own diet as diverse and exciting as the recipes on cannelle et vanille!

  61. Deb says:

I have been inspired by your use of fresh seasonal ingredients. Not only in your flavorful recipes but in the presentation of the food with your stunning photos. Congrats!

  62. pam robinson says:

dear aran…. i so applaud you for your amazing talent and determination to see this thru…
i so look forward to meeting you tomorrow night… cannot wait!
i also want to carry your book at red ticking and will discuss with you… till tomorrow..xx pam

  63. For me … The best part of this blog is the beautiful food photos :-)

  64. Ouida Lampert says:

My most favoritest (grin!) part of the blog is your PRESENCE. I feel that I know you – through your stories. And, I am charmed. And your photography/styling is the most beguiling I have seen. Then, I truly love that you write for us gluten-free folks.

  65. Lisa says:

Hi Aran, I must admit, I don’t worry much about preparing gluten-free foods in my household. However, I am drawn to the beautiful display of your dishes.

I love to see fabulous food styling and food presentation ideas and your blog does not disappoint.

You have such a distinct photographic style and I’m always inspired by the lovely settings, styling and easy elegance of your “small plates and sweet treats”.

One day I hope to become a better cook but for now, I soak up the photos and feel inspired to continue working to improve my own photos and food styling efforts.

Good luck on the book tour and have a great week.

  66. I came upon your blog over a year ago when I was looking for gluten free recipes for my family. I immediately fell in love with your photography and although I have never been much of a baker I felt inspired to try baking for the first time! My kids love fruit and chocolate so I have been very happy to try new desserts for them. I love soup so each time I see one of your new soups I enjoy trying it. The other reason I love your blog is because my mother is Basque and every other summer we visit our family and all of my cousins in the Basque country! It’s wonderful to read your stories about the Basque country and your pictures always take me back to one of my favorite places to be! I look forward to following your work for years to come … and giving your book as gifts to my gluten-free friends!

  67. As a photographer, I particularly love the light, airy confections that are your lovely photographic work! You make everything you photograph look divine, and I have no doubt that it all tastes as good as it looks. You are an inspiration to me as a food photographer. Plus, I love your enthusiasm and excitement about not only your photography, but your work as a foodie!

  68. Jessica says:

I am so excited for your book! The best part of your website is that it’s a constant source of inspiration. Whenever I am in a cooking rut, I can count on your website to remind me why I love to cook.

  69. Virginia says:

Enhorabuena Aran.

  70. Angela says:

Let me begin with the photographs: they are delicate, delightful, and tender in their description and presentation.

Then, the stories and travel : we get to tag along with you, peeking in barns, walking through orchards with fresh grasses at our feet, picking fruit, dodging pecking hens, listening to the laughter of your sweet children.

And finally, the food: did it ever look so delicious, so whimsical, so popping with color? Were we ever more tempted by small bites, by the promise of another?

Your blog is a totally sensory and sensual experience; and although I am not intolerant to glucose, I have enjoyed every morsel you/I’ve made!! Congratulations Aran!

  71. Marika says:

What I have enjoyed most, when visiting your site, is the complete experience that you share with each post. It’s the sights, sounds, tastes and touches that make me feel that I’m there with you, whether it’s in the apple orchard, the farm yard, or at your kitchen table. Thank you for including me.

  78. Begoña says:

Zorionak, Aran!

  79. Deb R says:

Your absolutely gorgeous photos! and beautiful food of course!

  80. Christine DuRoss says:

    Hi Aran!
Congratulations on the publication of your book! It must feel amazing!
I discovered your blog while searching for gluten free recipes about 1-2 years ago, and since then I have made many of your recipes. What I have enjoyed the most is that the recipes you develop use gorgeous ingredients and that you create such beautiful food – through your blog (which has become my absolute favourite), I have also been able to create beautiful gluten free food. It does not feel like I am missing out on anything, being gluten and dairy-free.
I am so excited to read your book cover to cover, and to begin trying your new recipes!

  81. sarah rogovin says:

Hello, Aran. I first learned of you from Goop a few years ago. You and Goop are the only sites I regularly read and yours is the only one I never miss. I am gluten intolerant so that is what first attracted me to your site but now that is secondary. I love your poetic nature, your use of language and your ravishing photos. The way you combine your love of place, family, art, nature and nuture along with a serious career is awe inspiring — I think you must truly be in harmony within yourself and with the world to accomplish this. I run a family business (trucking ) that is very male dominated and requires qualities/abilities/competencies so different than the ones you express so well and at times it is a true blessing to see ” Cannelle and Vanille ” pop up . It is like a wonderful meditation session right at my desk. I send you my best wishes … may the long time sun shine upon you ….

  82. Chrissi says:

I happily found your blog after finding out I was gluten -intolerant over a year ago. Besides your wonderful and yummy recipes I read to be inspired by your photography! They really take me to another place. Sometimes I forward your blog to my husband and tell him – “This is how I want to live! This is where I want to live!” I don’t need to explain to him any farther. He just understands. The photos are captivating and your blog is very comforting. Thank you for taking me with you (even though I never leave my desk!)

  83. Deniz says:

I only discovered cannelle et vanille a few month ago, since then it’s my hotspot to get inspired to cook a treat for my loved one’s and my own taste buds. Your articles and pictures are so warming and they make me looking forward to some kitchen magic time even after a long day of work. Thanks so much! All the best for your book release! Cheers from Berlin!

  84. Diane says:

I hate to copy so many others, but I have to say the photography is amazing. Every recipe looks so beautiful, it makes me want to try things I normally wouldn’t.

  85. alexis says:

Your blog is hands-down the most beautiful one around! I love the colors and vividness of your photography that humbly expresses the natural beauty in food and nature. You also do a great job of showing the relationship between the food’s natural origins (be it blossoms readying themselves for fruit, or sheep grazing in a meadow!) and food lovingly prepared and ready for consumption on a plate. Your creativity comes through in the mixture of flavors and ingredients (GF!), as well as in your photography and writing! Keep up the wonderful work, and thank you for sharing your talents and passions with the rest of us!

  86. Debra says:

Delicious recipes and gorgeous photography … Thank you for sharing your inspirational blog…!

  87. Marisa says:

Aran, congratulations about your book. I must wait some days untill I will buy it just in case I get honoured with one book directly from the author with the meaning it will have to me. I realy find your work very delicate and I feel happy looking at your wonderful pictures, sometimes relaxed.

Best desires for you and your family, from another Spanish girl (in my case living in Portugal).

  88. Kaluz says:

I like your pictures! I also really like that your recipes are gluten free and use great flours. I’d really love to win one of the books :D.

  89. anne says:

Para mi como para much@s tu blog es un lugar fresco lleno de inspiración, de vida y tu libro ocupará un lugar en mi librería en breve. Me encantaría que me tocara una de las 10 copias. Gracias por ser tan maravillosa ♥

  90. I love your blog for the amazing recipes, and the gorgeous photos!! I see a plate that you’ve photographed, and I immediately want to make it myself. Your book looks like so much inspiration in one place, and I would love to win a copy!!!
Keep up the amazing work, great food, and fabulous photos. xo

  91. Carla says:

Love your pictures and ideas. My husband has gluten intolerance and I started baking and cooking gluten free. Amazing help from you! Congratulations on the book.

  92. valerie s. says:

First followed you for your lovely pastry creations, true art. But now, since discovering that I too am gluten intolerant, these pages mean more to me than ever. Your beautifully inspired recipes show that eating gluten free is something to savor. Thanks for all you do!

  93. Eve Saffron says:

Colors, flavors, methods, passions, inspiration steam up from your blog through my screen exciting all my senses. Visiting your site has become a tasty routine and is one of the only food blogs that I don’t just admire photos and recipes, but actually thoroughly read and enjoy your fluid writing and insights. Cannelle et Vanille is without a doubt one of the most extraordinary blogs I have come across and I know I would savor and cherish your cookbook just as much, if not more. Congratulations on your publication, and cheers to many more!

  94. Heather Brandt says:

I love the photography in your blog :)

  95. I have always been inspired by your use of colour and especially your fantastic styling that has this effortless, simple look to it that I adore. Even though it’s clear that so much goes into each image, it has a simple and natural feel to it like everything just fell into place. Your accompanying images with an editorial style that help to support the food images are also so refreshing and one of my favourite parts of each post. I can’t wait to own a copy of this book- it will for sure end up on the top of my Christmas list this season. :)

  96. Jenny says:

Hi, I’m actually rather new to the blog, but I really love it! I made the oat herb scones and my baking confidence has really improved. I had ordered the book on kindle but amazon emailed me that its not available. I also made the tortilla and it was a big hit with my house guests. Aran, since I am very new to baking what are the most essential things I should own? I have a cookie sheet and a food processor, a mixing bowl, and spoon measurements. Could you please advice?

  97. Roxana C. Alvarez says:

Aran, oftentimes I watch you from afar. This is the first time I leave a comment ever. Too shy, I think. Today, tempted by the possibility of treasuring in my hands a piece of your creation (your amazing book), I have decided to leave this. You want to know what your readers have enjoyed, what they have learned – here is what I feel…right here, from my desk, I have cooked with you, taken pictures with you, smelled, tasted, and have had a fuller life. You have given me a dream to dream every day. Something new for my senses. Congratulations!

  98. What have I enjoyed most about your blog? Where do I begin? First off, I love that you sought out gluten-free cooking for your children. I am amazed with your stunning, stunning photography, stories and beautiful recipes. Your photographs and recipes just pull everything together. they are absolutely beautiful. I can’t say enough. Truly inspiring.

  99. Natalie W. says:

Aran! I am so excited about your cookbook. Tried to find it in town last weekend but couldn’t, so I would LOVE to win a copy. I just love your style and making GF seem sophisticated and edgy instead of lackluster and problematic. Thank you!!!

  100. wen says:

the photography…of course, the beautiful photos….

  101. mjau.Qi says:

Well oh well. First thing thaht inspired me was your food photography. Second is the way these recepies are done. Healthy and nice done. Love all of that, thank you

Regards from Slovenia and wellcome on my Food blof here http://mjauqi.blogspot.si/

  102. Amélie says:

I think what I enjoy the most are the pictures. They have to be the most beautiful food pictures I have seen! I love the light, the pretty plates, the decoration. That being said, I also love healthy recipes with seasonal ingredients, and these are perfect. I think my favorite (of the ones I’ve made so far) was the apricot pistachio lemon shortbread tart – AND it was gluten-free, which is great because I have family members who are gluten-intolerant. I’d love to get my hands on the book! :)

  103. Wardah says:

    Hello!

Over these years, I’ve definitely enjoyed everything about your blog, but what I love the most are your pictures. Your style is so fresh and unique and every single picture brings out vibrant color and appealing foods. Amazing!

  104. deeba says:

I have enjoyed every word you have written, every picture you have clicked from the day I discovered your beautiful blog Aran. I cooked a Basque lamb stew the other day … and all I could connect with was you! Thank you for your inspiring space … right from the Daring Bakers days, to the vanilla interview you so large heartedly agreed to do,to the birth of little M. I am so happy to see this beautiful book see light of day, so relieved for you that the wait is over! Good things happen to good people.

  105. Real food, in real seasons, in real portions that are blissfully nurturing….congrats on seeing the fruits of your labor become this lovely book.

  106. Helen says:

A friend of mine recomended your site and I am so glad she did. I have never seen gluten free foods look so inviting. When I get into my new home I am going to get your book and start making your recipes. Thank you so much for all your hard work and the beautiful way you present it. Thank you for the chance to win your beautiful book.
    :)

  107. Juliet P. says:

Congratulations, Aran! I have followed you for years – there is so much I love about your blog – your beautiful photos of fruit and produce, your stories of visiting farms and your home in Basque country, and your beautifully styled and appealing recipes!

  108. Jennabeth says:

    Hi Aran,
This may be odd to belong to a food blog in the Northern Hemisphere while downunder in NZ, our seasons are opposite!!!!. I found looking at your lovely photos during your spring and summer a real treat while we had cold, wind and rain. I have made a list of all the goodies I am going to try out during my own summer. I have so enjoyed looking at all the interesting vegetables, fruit etc that we do not have here in NZ, it has been a real education in expanding my own food knowledge. Technology has allowed me to experience another food culture and I have so enjoyed looking in on your very interesting adventures. All the very best with your book and I can feel a visit to Amazon coming on.

  109. Magali says:

    Dear Aran,
Congratulations for your book, so exciting!
C’est un plaisir de visiter votre blog, de vous lire et d’admirer les photographies.
    Best wishes,
    Magali

  110. First of all I want to comgratulate you on your book as well as on the new layout of the blog. I Love the colors and background. Second, I want to thank you for having inspired me all these years and for being one of the reasons to start my own blog this fall. Your blog is simple yet full of stories and great recipes. I have made many of your recipes and they all came out great. Your passion for food, photography, family and travel shows in every post you write. A person reading your blog feels like he knows you even if he /she never met you. I hope you visit Montreal again. I have missed your workshop last summer. I would love to meet you in person and learn more about blogging. Thank you for your blog and for inspiring me. All the best!

  111. Cathy says:

All the best with the launching of your book! What I love about your blog are the photogragphs that reflect so much more than their images. I first heard about you in the recent article in Whole Living. Because of your gluten-free lifestyle, I am now exploring the same for myself due to struggling with vertigo symptoms for over two years. Thank you, Aran! (and if being chosen a winner of your book, I intend to share it with my daughter who is also on the same path…!)

  112. Leanne says:

Congratulations on your new book! I absolutely love the photography, you just have such a beautiful eye that captures food in the most natural way. The recipies are so inspiring, using gluten free and fresh ingredients, they are right up my alley, I want to try them all!!

  113. Sara says:

I fell in love with your blog immediately because of your fresh recipes and your gorgeous photography. Your blog also has a great voice – it’s kind and gentle, one of those blogs that I don’t actually skip through all the “fluff” to get to the actual recipe. Your work is one of many that has inspired me to take a greater interest in my own food and cooking, and hopefully to one day start a food blog of my own.

  114. Lindsay says:

Your blog helped inspire me to realize that cooking can be an art form, not just something utilitarian. I’ve also come to enjoy pairing food with seasons, and pairing food with occasions, things I never really thought about much before. I’ve made many of your recipes for myself and my fiance, and a recipe for a fruit crumble from this blog set the stone rolling for my adventures in pastry. Additionally, I recently lost 60 pounds, and this blog helped me realize that I really can still eat what I want, I just need to take less in quantity and savor more in quality. Even if I don’t win the book, I’ll be purchasing one anyway after the holidays, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can do with it!

  115. Angela Dellutri says:

Congratulations on the publication of your book! I love your recipes and your eye for food styling is simply beautiful. Everything looks so appetizing. I want to make everything I see. I just started a gluten free diet and feel lucky to have found your blog. I also started growing a vegetable and herb garden this year. We buy local at a year-round farmer’s market in the city.

Congratulations again and hopefully this will be the first of many cookbooks to come!

  116. Monique Moore says:

It’s not that you make eating a gluten-free diet possible or easy… it’s that you make it appealing to everybody.

You capture beauty in your photography, providing us an intimate insight into your life as a mother, avid gluten-free cook, passionate food stylist and photography purist. All is natural… your garden-fresh local ingredients, your relaxed, but thoughtful use of outdoor settings, rustic wood counter tops and colorful handmade table clothes. Through all this, you use natural light to capture your personal food journey.

My only wish is that you lived close by and did classes in Orange Country… you have truly increased the bar in cook book food styling.

  117. Amanda Thompson says:

I love the photography on your blog, it is always absolutely stunning! But I think what I appreciate the most about your blog is that you make gluten-free cooking look delicious, not gross or scary!

  118. Sarvani says:

Firstly congratulations on the book.. it is a major achievement!!! :)

Why do I love your blog?? apart from the captivating photographs, beautiful recipes and evocative glimpses into your life.. your blog has taught a novice cook like me two things..

one is simplicity… that food may have depth of flavours and textures.. but when you serve it.. it will connect with you best if there is a certain simplicity to the way it is presented…because I believe in the end food is about coming back home.

and the second thing you taught me is that don’t mess with the way nature gives us our food.. adds your flavours and pair them together… but food will sing best when you don’t take it too far from the way nature intended it to be!!!

So, thank you Aran for a beautiful blog!! :)

  119. Elisa says:

    Congrats Aran!
I love your recipes – I’ve tried a few from the blog and all of them were awesome – so I’m waiting pretty anxiously for the book to arrive here ( I live in Italy after all! ).
    Enjoy this moment!
    Elisa

  120. Holly says:

I like the healthy recipes and the photography, especially of the beautiful farms. Congratulations on your book and I look forward to owning a copy.

  121. Wanda says:

Wow, so many comments. I’ll be surprise if I even get a chance for a book. You have inspired me tremendously and it shows in my cooking and presentation. Now, I plate the food differently to give to dear family. I love your family stories and your pictures. The many fresh food you use and it hits me that I’m learning new ideas to feed my family and friends. Keep on inspiring new cooks about fresh food and beautiful photography.

  122. Alicia says:

Please don’t laugh, but everything looks so tidy, clean and organised!. It looks so delicious too.
    Good luck with the book.

  123. Laura Wilder says:

I just recently discovered your wonderful Web site and am delighted with all your recipes and gorgeous photographs. I am in awe of your photography and cooking skills. You always bring joy to my day. Thank you for sharing your talents.

  124. Aran, I’m so very happy for you. Congratulations!
They say you feast with your eyes first so even though I am not gluten free, I am visually well fed everytime I visit your sight. And, the beautiful thing abou your recipes is that I’m never even aware they are gluten free. They are just wholesome and delicious sounding , every one of them.

  125. Stephanie says:

I love your photography and it’s nice to see gluten free food that is so creative.

  126. Kacie says:

Congratulations on your many, many months of work. I am impressed. My favorite thing about your work is your colorful, creative, and vibrant photography. I’m inspired… and drooling.

I love the simplicity and freshness of your recipes, but more than that, I love your photography. You can capture a story with your camera in such a way that even the most ordinary of days appears bright and full of beauty. You have an incredible gift!

  128. Sarah E. says:

I adore the photos, the stories of your childhood, and the lovely recipes. But most of all, I love how you blend all three. It’s just very relaxing to me to come home from work and be able to read your blog posts – so calming, and inspiring.

  129. hiddenart says:

Thanks for all the beautiful food you inspire us to prepare! I love looking at and cooking from your blog!

I am looking forward to your book as my family loves to eat! My husband is an Italian chef… always kicking me out of the kitchen, but I cant wait to see more recipes in your book and cook for him!

It arrived from my online bookstore (in Sweden) prior to the weekend, and I have been drooling over the recipes ever since. Tomorrow I will try the chocolate and beet molten cake. It sounds so delicious…

  133. pateberry says:

What have I enjoyed most? Easy to answer! Your fresh and beautiful approach to nourishing us with solid, reliable recipes combined with photographs that bring the freshness you are experiencing right into my email. A respite without my leaving home/work/family. Thank you for your work and sharing so generously with us all.

  134. Régine says:

Je l’attends avec impatience sur Amazon.fr. Merci pour tout, pour ce blog magnifique, pour les recettes et pour le livre qui, j’en suis sûre est superbe !

  135. I have just bought two of your books – one for me and one for my mother for Christmas but I would love another to give away as a gift, either for another family member or as a giveaway on my food blog. I have always loved the fresh simplicity of your blog with photos which tell a story. Discovering you has been a highlight of my blogging life.

  136. ana lisa langridge says:

I don’t think there is anything that i could say that would be any different from all of the above as they are all so true in their praise of you. I am only a recent subscriber and i found your blog through another that you inspired. To start with, if i am honest i just loved the pictures and before i start cooking i like to inspire myself with yummy pics to get me in the mood. I am intolerant to gluten (but not allergic) and my most favourite food in the world is bread, warm from the oven with melting butter.mmmmmm! gutted right! and again if i am honest i often make myself ill because i can’t resist it as having tried gluten free cardboard bread and other products from the local shops i cannot imagine a life where i have to eat gluten free packaged products made by people who clearly do not have taste buds! and i feel for those who have to. So imagine my surprise when i realised that all these delicious photos of food that inspire me to cook myself something to eat were in fact the very thing i should be eating. So thank you very much and i hope you go on to many more cook book creations to keep all of us inspired and me eating what i should! :)

  137. Dorothea says:

Your beautiful photography and your artful choice of color combinations is what first drew me to your blog. Then it was your recipes…All of my family on my mother’s side reside in Europe – your recipes remind me of my visits with them and all of the delicious meals we shared.

  138. I just LOVE the photos, never has food been looking so fresh and delightful, you make everything seem so easy and natural, the photos are very inspiring, i can stare at them forever.
Congratulations with your book, I am definately going to have it, winning og not(o; ( i know the fantastic feeling, did one myself, working on the next one right now)
If you ever come to Copenhagen drop me a mail, and we might do something together ( i am a gardendesigner)

  141. Kristin McNamara Freeman says:

I discovered your website a little after my harvests were finished in 2011. Your photographs always draw me into your posted story; the photography is beautiful. So often the story of a particular food or preparation of a food so intrigues me that even when you do not post a recipe I am heading to the farmer’s market on Saturday searching for the freshest ingredients and then off to the natural food store for anything that is not in my pantry so that I can make an effort to recreate what you have shared.
The publication of your book is so exciting. I look forward to having the book on my shelf and using it to create some very special memories for friends and family. I would be thrilled to win the drawing and if that is not my fortune I will surely purchase a copy.
Thank you for providing so much delicious, beautiful and creative delight to my days.

Congratulations with the publication of your new book!

I love your blogg! What strikes me most is the photography and the simplicity.

The way you mix the photos of the dishes with photos of nature or places you have been are very inspiring. It reveals your love for fresh ingredients and the simple yet so rewarding life you live.

Your recipes and the way your present the food reminds me of what good quality food can be and that it does not have to be complicated to bring joy into my life.

Thank you for sharing your green living and your love for food and your family with us!

  152. Samantha G says:

Your blog has reminded me to take pause in this busy time of life to reflect on the beauty of nature and the wonderful (and photogenic!) bounty that it provides us. Not to mention the delicious and healthy recipes that you have shared so graciously – putting food back into focus as a work of art to be enjoyed by multiple senses. Thank you!!

  153. JB says:

I got hooked on your blog when I read the pre-pub announcement for your book in Publisher’s Weekly and then went online to check it out. I keep coming back for the gorgeous photography, the warm stories about family, friends, travels and shared meals, and the creative recipes (several of which are now household favorites). Congratulations on your new book!

  154. Diana says:

Congratulations on your book, I can’t wait to get my own copy! Your blog is just beautiful and motivating! Your work has given me a greater passion in the two things I love, cooking/baking and photography. The fact your recipes are gluten-free, yet look so delicious and flavorful. Thank you for all your amazing work!

  155. Aran, I have most enjoyed the warmth and the light I find in your blog, both in your writing and in your photography. They transport me to a happy place and bring me peace and calm at the end of my day when I sit down to see what new things you have to share. Thank you.

  156. Katherine says:

Looking at your blog gives me the desire to be closer to the environment and nature. I love the pure essence of your food and pictures.

  157. Stephanie Parker says:

I am a lawyer with a crazy busy life. I always, always look forward to your blog postings & I take the time to read every one! It is so nice to have such a lovely break from my day to look at your gorgeous photos & to read about your life. We spend the weekends in a small town in Georgia, which reminds me of your rural photographs. Please know how much your blog means to me and many others, I’m sure. Best wishes for much success with the book.

  158. Kristin says:

I love seeing the pictures you post and reading your creative recipes. Your photography is gorgeous.

  159. Samantha S. says:

What I love the most about your blog is when you share your stories about life. It is what I enjoy, to know how beautifully simple and full of love your life is. Of course I love the recipes and the photography, but your stories are most touching.

I do hope this contest is open to everyone? As I live in the Philippines.

  160. Maryann says:

It’s always a joy to look at the website. Not only are the pictures beautiful, but the recipes are great…and the book it beautiful!!!

  161. Castiel says:

    Hello Aran,

I have to admit that I did not realise your blog was gluten-free until I read about the release of your new book! I am not gluten free, however our shared love of fresh produce finds me often leaving it out of my diet.
I have been following your posts for almost a year now, yet I must admit I usually skip right to the recipes because once I see the pictures I can not resist temptation! -Which usually leads to a walk to the local farmers market as my ‘garden’ is sadly non-existent.

I grew up in California, in the hills of wine country surrounded by orchards of apple and apricot trees. I have since moved and now find myself in a house with a backyard large enough to fit a lemon tree and the occasional weed or three-hundred! Your blog reminds me of home, and of the harvest and apricot jam :) Your recipes take me back to that place, and I would be thrilled to have your book stand in my kitchen and help me make use of the lemons my new life has given me.

    Many thanks and congratulations!

  162. Dena says:

Congratulations, Aran. I hope the book is a huge success. Because you asked, what I like about this blog is more than the photos and the recipes. It is the warmth and the sincerity combined with the excellence you show in all you do.

  163. Congratulations, Aran! I love the dreamy photos on your blog and cannot wait to see them in print!

  164. I am 18 years old and relatively new to the food blogging scene. Like yourself, I love cooking and baking gluten free, photography, and nature. I have always seen these as very interconnected passions, but it was not until I discovered your blog that I was able to see how beautiful this interconnectedness can be. Your blog really stands out because of how you pair food and the environment in such an elegant way. I also think that because of your background as a trained pastry chef, you have been able to offer a different take on gluten free baking than I have seen elsewhere.
I know that there are alot of negative things at this time in the world, but I really appreciate people like you who understand the beauty of simplicity and bring it to the table for so many different people to enjoy. I hope that at some point in my future, I will be able to find a way to be a positive influence as you have been. I am trying to develop my style in my own blog through photography, art, and creating gluten free and vegetarian dishes.

I love your photography! It is so beautiful and inspiring.

  166. Jacqueline Duran says:

Have to admit loved the way the photos filled up the original blog and the delicate nature of your presentation of the recipes. Dream of travel to some of the places you have visited and shared on your blog and it inspires me to find some of my own travel destinations but to look at the nature and food native to the region.
Can do without the ad but understandable.
Still look forward to your blog definitely my favorite.
Can not wait to get your book.

  167. jessica says:

It’s hard to choose between the seasonal recipes and focus on eating local, or the gorgeous photography… I love everything about this blog! I’m so happy you’ve published a book!

  168. Jewel says:

What I like about this blog? The beautiful pictures, unique recipes, and most of all, the warmth that comes out from your words, food, and pictures. Do I have to say more? I adore this blog! I already pre-ordered and received the cookbook a couple weeks ago, but wouldn’t mind having a second copy to share with a friend.

  169. April says:

To be honest, I’m a recent joiner of your blog so I don’t yet have any big stories to tell… but I can say most truthfully that looking at the pictures of your beautiful food gives me chills. I would feel so blessed to own a copy of your new book. Thank you for the giveaway!

  170. Yasemin says:

    Hi Aran,
What I have enjoyed most about your blog over the years is your appreciation of your family and everyone around you. You are full of so much love and it emanates in your writing, in your food presentation and in your photography. This inspires me to be a better person.
Reading your blog has helped me see the dream life I want to live. Your beautiful photography; the adventures you go on with your kids, exploring and immersing them in nature; picking fruit; having a herb garden; sharing recipes with girlfriends; picnics; impromptu gatherings and having leftover pastry in the freezer just in case: when I visualise my dream life these all pop up now (thanks to you).
Seeing your life through your photos and through your stories has filled me up with so much joy. It inspired me to travel solo to Europe and to visit the Basque Country. I spent a week in San Sebastian and explored the pinxtos bars, took a bus to Hondarribia and to St Jean de Luz to see the red Espelette peppers hanging. I was so excited to be able to see your beautiful photos from your blog in real life. I took Basque cooking classes (Jon and the crew at San Sebastian food love your blog!).
I send you all my love for the book launch. Thankyou for being you and contributing your amazing gifts to the world. You have inspired me in more ways than I can express here in words.
    Love Yasemin

  171. Terra says:

    Dear Aran,
You have inspired me most with your colorful, clean, creative photography style–not to mention the mouth watering recipes.

I too have gluten sensitivities and your food sets a great example of how living gluten-free can be delicious, as well as fun, and beautiful. In a world where many people have forgotten what “real” food tastes like, I find your attitude and approach towards food to be very refreshing. Thank you for your dedication and hard (but rewarding) work.

    Best,
    Terra

P.S. I started my own food blog last year. At age 17, I have a lot to learn, but I’m excited to see where it will take me. I’d also like to publish a cookbook someday. I’m so excited for you!

  172. phyllis says:

I agree with someone…people try to copy you and that is a big compliment, right? :)
I LOVE your photo styling and how you inspire me to try things I wouldn’t normally.
That book has a LOT of recipes!!!

  173. Millie says:

I can’t thank you enough for your beautiful blog and all the effort you have put into creating the visual feast that is your beautiful new book. I am FINALLY emerging from a 12 year battle with Anorexia and I discovered your blog a few months ago. Words can’t describe how instrumental it has been in helping me to gain back an appreciation of food and the joy it adds to our lives. Even in my darkest moments perusing your blog has helped me to see the light. You are helping me realise that I deserve a life full of love and laughter, not an anorexic “half life” full of deprivation and misery.

  174. Holly says:

While the recipes on your website are amazing (thank you for that!), your photographs are what makes me need to try them!

  175. Betty says:

I love the freshness….the simplicity of it all.

  176. Grace says:

I discovered your site after my husband became gluten free. We’ve had such a hard time finding tasty gluten free products on shelves – even Whole Foods – and it was really frustrating. It’s particularly difficult having two little picky eaters and trying to be gluten free! But your website is beautiful, the recipes and photos are inspirational and it actually makes me feel like our whole family can all be gluten free together and that even my two little boys might be happy about the changes. I would love to use your book to shift my family over to a yummy way of gluten free life!

  177. Sharon says:

Your photography is beautiful. There is a dreamy quality to the photos that transports me. I am still trying to balance my food sensitivities with my love of cooking. Your approach inspires me.

  178. Love the way you use fresh ingredients and take beautiful photos of the food. The four seasons are also one of the factors that enable to source for varieties which unlike sun and rain is the only season we have whole year round.

  179. Ginger G says:

… like that when I get frustrated with gluten free, can find great recipes and pictures on your blog – thank you!

  180. Heather says:

My favorite thing is learning about French culture and foods through you.

  181. tartandsweet says:

Oh gosh, the beautiful photos and food of course. But also the stories, when you travel I feel like I travel with you.

  182. Jimena says:

    Congratulations!!!
I love love love your photos! The light, colors and especially the food. I also love the way you write and how you make it sound so warm and familiar. It makes me feel I was there with you when you try your recipes.

  183. Leslie says:

Your images are beautiful. They are so fresh, they inspire me to want to cook more and have a home in the countryside.

Congrats on your book! Wishes for a lot of success!!!

  184. Becky says:

You have opened my eyes to stepping out of my box and trying new things and flavor combinations and not discounting gluten free recipes as something “not interesting”.

  185. Tami Hatfield says:

I love your blog! I look forward to getting your posts in my box – your words are so calm and refreshing. Your photos are the most beautiful photos! I love all the color combinations that your setting and the food come together on. I have tried so many of your recipes and they have all been favorites! So – I thank you so much for your creativity, thoughtfulness and inspiration!
I look forward to reading about more of your adventures and seeing all your photos! I would love love love a copy of your new book! Cheers and Congratulations!

  186. Sarah R says:

I just discovered your site and I’ve been devouring your entries, lingering through all of the beautiful photography and enticing recipes! It’s making me nostalgic for a trip my boyfriend and I took to Spain, and my time in the Basque region was by far my favorite.

  187. Pattina says:

    Congratulations :) !
I really like the pictures on this blog, they are so beautiful. I am a visual person, so if there wasn’t any pictures I would probably not return even if the recipes were really delicious.

  188. Marie says:

Congrats! I so thoroughly enjoy your blog because it inspires me to live a rich life with your beautiful photography, travels, recipes. My husband and I want to expose our two baby girls to such loveliness, inviting them to love and respect the gift of life, nature, food, good company, etc. Your blog and recipes — and now your book — -are such a gift that you’ve given us. Thank you!

  189. You blog was one of the first that I started reading years ago at the beginning of my food blog addiction and is still to this day one of only a handful that I read every post of. Your photos and the ease in which you have adopted your new diet has been so inspirational to me as we had to make the same dietary changes a few years back too. Wishing you all the best for your book, I’m sure it is as wonderful as I imagine it to be xx Emm

  190. Noa says:

I love the tenderness of your pictures, these cute napkins, forks, plates, small berries, tiny greens – this all looks just perfect! Good luck with your book!

  191. ashley says:

i love how you have stayed consistent over the years, producing beautiful food and inspiring images. the colors in your photos makes me want to jump into my kitchen and start cooking immediately. thank you so much for making your delicious recipes accessible!!

  192. Zita says:

    Aran,

I don’t remember when I found your blog the first time but I know I fell in love with your photography first. I also write a food blog (actually two… in English and in Hungarian) and I learnt so much from you about food styling and food photography. I’m a beginner but very enthusiastic to learn. Food styling is a very difficult profession – I think.

Of course I tried some of your recipes and all of them turned out absolutely delicious. I love your simple, easy to make and healthy recipes. I love the way that your cooking and baking are so natural. Your travel posts bring the places so close sometimes I feel I’m there too to experience the same.

Your light, colourful style and photography makes me want to learn more day by day. You are a very inspiring person and role model for me. My big dream is to participate in one of your food photography & styling workshop one day!

Keep up this wonderful blog for a very long time!

What I have enjoyed most about your blog? Where on earth should I start, Aran? Your blog never fails to stun me with it’s beauty, wonderful stories about live and delicious recipes. I come hear when I need some inspiration or simply some comfort.
I’m so proud of you. A cookbook!! That’s incredible. Can’t wait to get it and cook some amazing meals and comforting desserts and share them with my loved ones.

  194. Elodie says:

It’s mostly incredible what you can do with gluten-free products and
your photographies are really inspiring, simply beautiful.
    Please continue like this!!

  198. Jaime says:

    Dear Aran,

    Congratulations on your book!!

Yours was one of the first few blogs I came across when I first looked into food blogging. It was your stunning photography that captivated me at first, and then the warm and kind tone in your writing. Your photography moves, enchants and opens up the eyes to a whole new world. I never thought to take up photography as a past-time but now I love looking through a camera lens and seeing food, and life, in a new light. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with IBS and was recommended to try a gluten-free diet. I am still experimenting and your recipes have been a wonderful guide. I particularly love your tart recipes! Your work inspires beyond creating recipes and beautiful imagery, it has inspired career change. I am currently training to be a pastry chef :-)

    Much love & respect,
    Jaime

  199. Thea says:

Oh, how I want this book! I am very, very picky when it comes to food blogs that I read – and cannellevanille is one of my favourites :-) I adore your pictures, design and all the recipes I’ve tried have turned out great! Fingers crossed :)

  200. eeffkkaa says:

  202. Kristina Foley says:

Hi! Your colors and photography are divine, and truly get the imagination fired up and ….the drool! thank you, K

  203. I’m new to your blog, but I look forward to exploring your recipes and sensibilities. I’m rediscovering my love for cooking after recovering from a bad ankle break. And living in Reno? I do eat Basque food periodically.

    Cheers!

    Jules

  207. Clytie says:

Congrats for the book and wonderful experience you had when writing it.
I’ve been following your blog for years now, first because of your exquisite pastries and photography and now again for the gluten-free pasties (and other recipes) :D
Good luck in the future as well!

  208. Leora says:

Despite all the delicious things and inspiring recipes on the blog, the thing I most enjoy is the photographs! Because they are what inspires me to look closely at the beauty I can see and make, and allows me to slow down to see that as you do. Thank you!

  209. Mari Gorenstein says:

Your food is both healthy and stunning. Takes the job of feeding your family as makes it an art form

  210. TK says:

Aran, I have loved seeing your littles grow and reading all your treasured stories about the Basque country. The photos and tone of your blog is always so light and… Content is probably the best word. As I gradually found out I was gluten intolerant, it’s been a great source of inspiration and leaves a great sense of ease in knowing I can still enjoy food and cooking. I can’t wait to read your book.

  211. Tracy says:

I love that everything is gluten free, but it’s not about gluten free. It’s gourmet and we never feel like we’re missing out on anything. My favorite thing is that you make gluten free normal.

  212. Maude says:

Wow, this is really the month of giveaways!! I preordered a copy of your book already (and it shipped yesterday! I hope it’ll arrive today!), but I have a few friends who I could give a copy to.

I think what makes me come back here again and again is this cozy feeling… I feel at home here, like you’re a friend of mine and we’re chatting about cooking and life. But what made me come back after my very first visit was hope. I have two gluten-intolerant friends, and at first I thought that was a terrible condition. However, reading and trying your recipes, I changed my mind : of course you have to use different ingredients, but it’s possible, and you don’t have to give up everything you love. I might have to try giving up gluten myself in the near future, and having done it for friends and with your help, makes it seem not so terrible now.

Thanks for sharing all of your stories and recipes with us!

  213. Thank you for all your lovely photographs! They sooth the soul and inspire such creativity! Our family is so appreciative of your recipes. Of my 6 children…4 plus me have Celiac disease! Your blog has been such a blessing to our family!

  214. Yolène says:

    Bonjour,
I have been reading your blog for a little bit more than a year now and I just find it so colourful and fresh. The photos are amazing and really reflect what food looks like, and I think the recipes are easy to make and it’s great to see that what is in the plate then looks like the photos.
I also really love the use of gluten free flours as I know a lot of people are intolerant or allergic to it nowadays, and it shows we can cook great things without using gluten.
    Well done!

  215. Katy Noelle says:

I’m so excited! The book has been in my Amazon cart for a while, now! =]

  216. Congratulations! What I love most about your site and your work…honestly, you do what I am committed to doing which is find the beauty in each day and encounter. When you cook, you don’t overwhelm the dishes with complicated technique but allow the ingredients to speak for themselves.

  217. Melissa L. says:

Congratulations on the beautiful book! I would love to win a copy because I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog and learning about new and delicious ways to cook for those family and friends who are gluten intolerant. What I enjoy most about your blog is the beautiful and inspiring photography.

    Thank you!!

  225. MzTallulah says:

I have to be honest, this is my first visit to your site because today I read about you and your book on two different blogs I read, but your photos and your guest post on 101 Cookbooks were enough for me to add you to my must-reads. Congratulations on the book, and thank you for the giveaway!

  226. charissa says:

Oh Aran, your beautiful, light photography — it makes your fresh recipes just jump off the page. I also love the way you’ve helped me reshape the way I think about cooking for my gluten-free friends. Not so much “without” as “featuring other stuff” instead. Thank you! : )

  227. vildana says:

Congratulations on your book being published! I would love to win a copy of it!

I’ve enjoyed the breathtaking pictures and the easy-to-make recipes from your blog the most. I also really like your European background as I grew up in Europe as well.

  228. Christina says:

While studying abroad in Australia in college a friend first taught me that cooking could be so much more than simply throwing some ingredients together in a pot – his passion made me fall in love with the act of cooking. When I stumbled across your blog a few years ago I was immediately enamored with your photography and stories of your passion – for food & for life! I’ve discovered endless new ingredients through your blog (thankfully we have a Whole Foods nearby!) and cross my fingers every day that you’ve got a new post up :-) Congratulations on your book & all that you’ve accomplished!

  229. sandra says:

Your photography is absolutely the most beautiful I’ve seen on a food blog. You have created a real sense of environment and tone with the look and feel of the shots. Your recipes are also fabulous in their unusual turns and healthy base. Thank so much for offering this give-away!

  230. Hannah says:

You photographs have always inspired me and freshened up my day. There’s just something very clean and fresh about your blog design, and I loved that too.

  231. Cacahuete says:

What I most enjoy in your blog are the food stories and the inspiring pictures, that sometimes take me breath away and I can almost fell the sun, the vegetables and the smells. And on the top of that the delightful recipes.

Best of luck and congrats on your new book.

  232. Barb says:

Your food photos are amazing. You make everything look so beautiful.

  233. Dolores Dew says:

  234. Congratulations on the book release! How exciting and what an accomplishment for you!

What a fantastic treat to have the opportunity to win one of your books. I frequent your blog in order to see the way you set the stage for delicious looking meals. I feel like it would be a crime to ruin how you plate some of your dishes, but I imagine they are tasty enough that it would be worth it!

Congratulations, again, and thanks for sharing your culinary adventures!

  235. It’s the most beautiful foodblog out there – and the only one that after years of foodblogs coming (and a few going) I read every single week!! I actually look forward to every new post knowing it will never disappoint me. The pictures always a pleasure to look at, the posts always inspiring. Thank you for becoming a wonderful part of my life!!

  236. Ashley says:

Oh, your photos and recipes are both gorgeously delicious!!

  237. Danielle says:

Oh where do I start! You have been a constant inspiration to me in so many ways – in the kitchen, for my photography, for my writing…and for appreciating all the small seasonal pleasures before the slip by. And I think what I love about your blog most of all is the beauty – sometimes I come just to look at photos and get whisked away by them. Thank you!

  238. Nina says:

    Hi Aran,
I love your blog because even though it is foggy outside right now, I know at your blog I cann find the inner sunlight every time. Your photos and your stories just shine and radiate something so warming and relaxing and joyful that I am even not sure how it gets along with the fact that I observe it through computer and not alive. Thanks for being my joy and lots of luck with your book!

PS: and, of course :), special thanks for your gluten free and non diary recipes :)

  239. Teresa says:

Congratulations on your new book! Your blog has been a true inspiration to me. I can’t wait to sit down, with a warm cup of tea & your book. I know it’ll inspire me to dream. Wishing you all the best and thank you!

  241. Cathy M says:

I’m new to your blog but after a couple of minutes perusing your site and watching the video for your book I was hooked in an instant. I found you through Heidi Swanson who I love but have a feeling I’ll be spending a lot of time here. Your photography is outstanding. It makes me want to pack up my kids so we can go travel and eat.

  242. Julia Sanchez says:

  243. Stephanie says:

Congratulations on the publication of your book!

i’m always inspired by your blog; whether it’s to try a new recipe, take pictures or just looking at the world a little bit differently.

  244. susan says:

Aran – I hope you know how much I love and adore you. You have been such a wealth of inspiration for me, thus my family, as we continue on our quest to put whole, unprocessed ingredients into our home and our bodies. Congrats on an amazing accomplishment. I cannot wait to see what you do next! xx

  245. Cristine says:

I love the beauty in simplicity of your blog, recipes and photos. You have inspired me to be more authentic in my own kitchen, keep it simple and enjoy it more. We were gluten free already and I was doing some baking, but your recipes not only had a much better flour mixture but were SO creative and yet simple. Best of all, you inspired me to move to the Basque Country. My husband and I brought our 3 daughters here over the summer, rented an Agroturismo site, long term, and just took part in our first apple harvest. We live in Aizarnazabal, homeschool the girls and have our own organic garden on the farm. And your photos really tell the story of this land…beautifully. Thank you for your labor of love…the book and the blog.

  246. I love your photography and styling! Keep on with this great job and congrats for your new book!!!

  247. Nicola says:

I love the photographs, but now – after battling various health issues – that I’m also eating gluten-free, I am especially interested in the recipes.

  248. Sarah says:

By far my favorite part of your blog is the photos — really, I have not seen such consistently lovely images anywhere else. Sometimes I bring my laptop over to my husband to show him a couple of images because I can’t resist not sharing what I see.

    Congratulations on the cookbook!

  249. Cordelia says:

I found your blog while looking for recipes to cook sunchokes and have been coming back ever since. Bonus, lots of recipes here are gluten free and double bonus, your photos are so wonderful, they inspire me to do pretty things.

  250. Kristin says:

Congratulations on your new book! I’ve loved your beautiful photography and delicious recipes for a long time. I spent a week in San Sebastian, Spain, this summer, and it was absolutely incredible. I understand your love for food after savoring so many incredible tastes in that region. What a wonderful place!

  255. Joanne says:

Congratulations on your new book! It looks beautiful.

I love your blog because all of my senses are awakened by your pictures, writing, and recipes. Your pictures are so romantic and inspiring. I have loved cooking for friends and family ever since I was in high school — my favorite thing about your blog has been finding delicious gluten-free recipes for baked goodies to share with people, some of whom know of their own gluten allergy, and many of whom do not even know why their bellies hurt when they eat wheat!

  256. Tatiana castillo says:

  260. mariecurtin says:

I haven’t been a long term reader of this blog, its actually quite a recent discovery for me, but I must say I love it! The freshness, lightness and honesty of the photographs, the captivating pieces about food and travel and the brilliant simplicity and seasonality of the recipes that really draw the reader in and keep them wanting just a morsel more. Great work!!

  261. Monique Houle says:

    Congratulations!
Thanks to 101 Cookbooks, I’ve just discovered your website, your blog and most of all, your beautiful photography. Both your recipes and your photography are truly inspiring.

I’m a passionate cook and my camera is never far. I love to take pictures of what the food I prepare as much as scenes from my trips to Spain. I have basque ancestors from Anglet, North of Biarritz and I love the fact that you chose to actualize and personalize the traditional recipes.

Can’t wait to look at your new recipe book.
    Monique

I found you via instagram and immediately fell in love. I’ve had a very bitter-sweet relationship with food and cooking, I adore making things for people – but I’m very wary when it comes to eating because, let’s just say, I’m very ‘health’ conscious. But your blog and photos made me fall in love with it all over again, you’ve helped me remember cooking is such a wonderful thing and you helped me fill that missing part of my life in again! I’ve even started my own foodie blog now. Everything you produce is so beautiful and fresh and gorgeous and when I found out you were writing a book I knew I’d have to have it! Thank goodness it’s arriving in England.. thank you for everything – keep on inspiring.

  265. Janet says:

I can’t wait to get a copy of your book for my waiting room! Congratulations !

This world is a gorgeous scripture of whole foods and deep and steadfast love for oneself and one’s family- you present words and photographs with sublime care and precision to readers, coloring them in bright hues and filling them with simple recipes that pay homage to a new and remarkable lifestyle. Cannelle et Vanille, to me, you are one of the greats – your blog is peppered with bright thoughts, splashes of color and wholesome recipes that I know I can feed myself and my loved ones so that they’ll understand how I care.

I have to say your site has been my go to for the last two years. I stumbled upon you when I first started looking into french baking and found your blog constantly mentioned. What i love about it is that you see all elements as important. Your styling makes my mouth water in anticipation and i have learned so much more about its importance than i ever have from another cooking source. The recipes are very thorough and well structured. I feel as if youre there guiding me in my kitchen. I really have learned to cook fresh as well as wow my friends thanks to you. You’ve also made visiting the Basque region rocket to the top of my places to go. The posts from there always spark my wanderlust. Im so so excited to get my hands on your new book. And i hope some day to take one of your styling classes if you ever offer them again! MANY MANY congrats on all your good fortune. You deserve it!

    Hello from Tuscany!
What I have enjoyed most about your website is that I have just discovered it; and your book as well.
    Good luck

Eres aire fresco.

    Un abrazo,
    Mónica

  287. Lesley says:

As well as being one of the first food blogs I followed, it is the freshness and vitality of both your food and your photos that has kept me coming back.

  288. Thank you Aran from us here in a little seaside village on the east coast of Australia. Our little girl has severe allergies to egg nut and sesame so we have been making everything from scratch too and thoroughly enjoying our newfound togetherness that cooking and baking brings. Watching your blog and your celebration of your family and the food you prepare and share feels so much like our lives. Your photos remind me to look at the beauty and pleasure in small things and to focus on how lovely life can be if you do the old fashioned thing of baking at home. Often when I see one of your posts I turn to my partner and say, “we need some more land, or, let’s get a cow.” Your photos are just so inspiring. Small Plates & Sweet Treats arrived in the mail yesterday and today we sat down to some lovely tarts using one of your recipes. I took some photos which I will post on my blog soon. I would love you to have a look if you have time one day. My photos, like many of yours, feature the chubby beautiful hands of the children who make cooking such an absolute pleasure. Thank you again for all that you do.

  289. Shannon says:

Congratulations on your book launch and it’s so exciting to read about your journey. I’ve learnt so much from you as started on gluten free diet last year. also learnt so much about photography and food styling. thank you for sharing everything you have

  290. Clare says:

Stumbling across your blog was the start of a quiet revolution in my life. When I first began to read it, I was a stressed, hurried person, who had forgotten how to notice the joy of small things.

Now I take time to cook, to notice, and to bring more artistry and femininity to my life.

So this message comes with enormous thanks to you both from me and my (now much better-fed!) husband. May your book transform many others’ lives with the same charm and magic that has helped to transform ours.

  291. Emily Harding says:

I was never interested in photography at all until I saw your blog a few years ago and now it is all I want to do. You are such an inspiration. I love not only the perfectly styled food photos but I think I love most are the pictures you take on your trips. Especially to Nadia’s…

  292. Cara says:

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and I’d love to win a copy of the book—even if I don’t, I’m sure I’ll end up receiving it as a gift from someone. But for today, I simply want to say that my favorite part about it is your photography: I find your work invigorating and soothing at the same time, and sometimes when I’m having a frazzled day or need to calm down to get into the mood to write, I’ll stop by and look at your photographs for a while. They’re truly lovely. Thank you!

  293. Asha says:

Beautiful photography, mouthwatering recipes and wonderful stories. Your blog is fantastic! I love the beautiful dishes you use and bright happy colours that inspire me to try your recipes… and perhaps do some shopping for prettier dishes! You have almost convinced me to buy an ice cream maker…

Congrats on the book release! The new blog design is lovely too, though perhaps one small technical error… if you go under the recipe search most items are appearing in duplicate.

    Thanks again for the inspiration!!!!

  294. Marie says:

    Bonjour,

Le site est tout simplement magnifique. Les images et les recettes me donnent chaque fois envie de partir et de me mettre en cuisine pour profiter moi aussi de ton art de vivre.

J’aimerais beaucoup avoir le privilège de lire ton livre.

  296. mari says:

Found your blog while recovering from cancer. It became a happy place to visit. Your blog is pure inspiration for all senses. Congrats for the book!

  297. deeapaulitan says:

I’m new to the GF life and am continuing my food revolution journey to becoming as clean of an eater as I possibly can. What I have loved during this adventure is finding people who take the time to make foods that not only taste delicious, but who also make it look beautiful and appetizing to those who are not into this way of life. You are one of them. I’m so thankful for you, Aran.

  298. Kelly B says:

I found your blog a few years back and instantly fell in love. Your recipes are so comforting and the photography is just remarkable! Raised in Northern California I was fortunate to be able to enjoy wonderful food and while living in San Francisco I was able to locally source all of your ingredients. After a recent move to FL with my military boyfriend I was sad to leave SF. I turned to your blog to remind me of those wonders as I had always assumed you lived in SF or NY. When I learned that you too were living in Florida I felt instantly connected and incredibly inspired! October 1st was the beginning of my gluten free baking. It has been quite enjoyable. You are an amazingly talented woman and I look to you for ideas every day. Thank you and congratulations!

  299. alexandra says:

So excited about your beautiful new book! The reason i love your blog and it has inspired me is because without it i would still be using the standard flours, breads and baked goods that i grew up, you have introduced me to a new world of grains and flours i would have never been aware of, ones that bring a more delicate bite, a heartier crunch or a slight nuttiness, flavors that add more depth to my cooking. Looking at your pictures and video for your book just reminds me of a rustic romance (with food) that makes me smile while sitting at my workdesk.

  300. Kate says:

You’ve inspired me to take joy in the simple process of cooking and eating and to cultivate the artist in me when preparing and presenting food. Thank you.

  301. Milena says:

    Congratulations on your book!!

Actually your site was a turning point in my life.. looking at your beautiful photos (they give such a peaceful aura!) and recipes have made me try baking different stuff.. and now, 4 years later, i’m pursuing a professional baking career. So my sincere thank you!!

  302. Allison says:

I think the thing I love most about coming to your site is seeing the amount of love you put into all the food you make and all the things you do with your family. You pay attention to the little things – the way the light falls just right on an egg that you’ll put into a recipe later, the way your daughter’s feet look in the sand on a family trip to the beach, the way an apricot tart glows when it’s arranged just so. Your photography and writing perfectly capture those little moments and memories, and they remind me of those “perfect” moments in my own life, the times when the strawberry juice from the just-picked strawberry is running down my daughter’s chin, or when an apple tart I baked for friends ends up tasting just as good as I had hoped.

  303. Sylvie says:

Enjoying your granola from article in Whole Living as I write. Always love your pictures, styling and recipes. Hope to win your book, but will buy it id I’m not a winner!

  304. Olga says:

Congratulations !Beautiful Beautiful photography!Your pictures are so beautiful and thank you for that!..Olga

  305. Lesley says:

I have been visiting your blog for some time for the beautiful photography and mouth watering recipes. I do not need to eat gluten-free but your blog has introduced me to the world of alternative flours that I did not know anything about. Now I have a pantry of flours beyond typical AP and wheat flours like millet, amaranth, rice flours, etc. Would love a copy of your book for my cookbook shelves!

  306. Christine says:

    Aran –
I am brand new to your blog (first visit was today!) and love everything about it. I am a very visual person, so if I had to choose on thing I enjoy the most it would be the pictures. They are stunning. I can not wait to try some of your recipes this weekend and am already having a hard time choosing which ones to start with! Congrats on the book.

  307. Noel McNeil says:

I love your blog! I found it a few weeks ago and have been inspired already. You take amazing pictures and I’d love to try your recipe’s. I love to cook! I had my 3rd child 3 months ago so cooking for me lately has been more about survival than enjoyment, but I’m ready to get back to the kitchen and savor it. I would love to win your beautiful book and I am so happy for you. My dream is to write my own cookbook one day…

  308. Debbie L says:

Congrats on your book! I am only very new to your blog – which I found through Pinterest. Your photos, stories & recipes are quite lovely. Thank you!!

  309. Irene says:

What joy to discover your blog. This is the first day finding you through 101 Cookbooks website.
I’d previously enjoyed not only your story but recipes printed in Whole Living magazine article & Coastal Living magazine. I have your book on my Xmas wish list and as a gift for my son-in-law who is practicing gluten free eating. One thing I especially like about your recipes is
use of either small amounts of sugar &/or if used natural such as maple syrup or honey. Being a
very recent cancer survivor I cherish recipes such as yours to continue to thrive. Your photographs are inspirational & as you said, “we eat with our eyes first.” Thank you!

  311. Hope West says:

what have i enjoyed about your blog…the lush photography, the heartfelt sentiment, the personal and uplifting tone…i appreciate that i feel you whispering in my ear, giggling over shared jokes, savouring the tastes, as i do…i love the rich colours, the myriad textures, the portrayal of food as festivity and feast–for eyes, for nose, for hands, for lips…and the recipes, the recipes, the recipes…
thank you for the opportunity to say thank you.

  314. Deb says:

Thank you so much for the opportunity to win a copy of your new book Aran ♥
Your photography is stunning & love of family and home is evident.
I know that when I cook for my family , I’m creating memories with each meal. It is so lovely to hear the voices of my (adult) children when they come home for supper, comment on the aromas coming from the kitchen with excitement because I have made one of their favourite meals or listen to them reminiscing about favourite deserts and special treats I’ve made.
Your cookbook will find it’s way under the Christmas tree this year for my daughter.
I hope your book signing tours find their way to Canada.

  315. Sydney Philbin says:

I have loved all the beautiful pictures and delicious recipes. Congratulations on your new book!

I remember stumbling upon Cannelle et Vanille a few years ago, while I was searching for a recipe for Burnt Milk Ice Cream, as I too grew up with it in my Persian home. Of course, this recipe was a rarity to find, but finally, I found yours. I was immediately drawn to your obvious passion for food, your stories, and your beautiful photographs. Honestly, your recipes were so delicious, that i didn’t even realize they were gluten-free at first. From stumbling upon your page because of chance, to bookmarking it and visiting it on a daily basis, I have fallen in love with Cannelle et Vanille, and have discovered my own love for cooking. I am now a sophomore in college, and always turn to this blog for recipes, or simply for inspiration.

    Thanks for inspiring us all

  324. Elaine L says:

I am very happy to see you finally have your wonderful book in your hands; it must be amazing.

    Muxu haundi bat, potxola!

  326. Teri says:

I love all the beautiful photographs you take that highlight the beauty of seasonal eating.

  329. I am not leaving a comment to win the book. I have my copy you signed for me at Anthropologie in City Place. I have been following your blog for nearly four years now and have always felt so inspired by how well you put everything together and top it off with such amazing photos. I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to have met you in person and for serving as an inspiration for cooking healthy and gluten-free. I am very happy to see how much you have achieved through sharing on this blog. You deserve it and even more! Thank you Aran! :)

  330. Heather says:

I have only recently found your blog, but it could not have come at a better time. I am newly married and working alot– a challenging combination! Your blog reminds me of my time living in (lovely) San Sebastian, during a much simpler time in my life. It reminds me of the things I truly love– gathering with my large Italian family to share a beautiful meal with fresh ingredients. Already your ideas have provoked some changes (substituting coconut milk for cream in some desserts…) I have a long list of recipes to try from you once things slow down here. Thanks for the inspiration. It’s exactly what I need right now! Congratulations on your book.

  331. Debbie Chiccone says:

What I enjoyed most about this blog, was having the chance to cook with you and my daughter at Sunday Suppers in Brooklyn. It was one of the most enjoyable cooking experiences I have ever had and the first time I have ever had the pleasure of preparing a meal with the author and chef. My daughter and I were truly blessed. I have spoken to my daughter so much about your recipes over the years and have sent her quite a few emails, so it was the greatest experience to prepare and dine with delightful people. May your endeavors be forever fruitful.

  332. Emma L says:

Simple – through your blog, I (plagued and shaped by an eating disorder in my teens) have come to appreciate food not as a necessity, but as an artistic comfort and a source of joy. It has changed my life.

I have just been introduced to your blog through “101 Cookbooks” and I look forward to visiting again soon. The freshness and simplicity of your style appeals to me. I hope I am a winner of your giveaway because I love reading an actual book as opposed to using a computer to browse recipes, it just isn’t the same. Thanks and good luck!

  336. Rian N. says:

  337. i LOVE your gorgeous + inspiring photography. also being gluten free, i thought i had to give up baked goods as they all tasted, well quite frankly horrible. i have tasted hands down the very best in baked goods from your blog AND they are gluten free. my favorite was the apple cardamon brown butter cakes. i received your book today in the mail. i was over joyed, it is the most beautiful book. i hope to gift all of my food loving friends your book for the holidays. deep gratitude.

I have read this blog off and on for ages. I just love the photography…I look at the pics, then I read the recipes. Love the photos – they inspired me to get the camera out again (but I don’t even pretend to compete with your photos). My daughter is the baker, she uses the recipes.

  341. victoria says:

I love the colour of your posts. There is something utterly refreshing about coming to visit you. I can smell freshness in the air, there’s always a light warm breeze (even when there isn’t) and good smells all around. I love the base touches to your home and family, I like that you allow me to lose myself in another life where everything is delicious, for just a short while.

  342. Giacomo says:

The photographs help immensely, besides which, they are just simply beautiful to ‘feast’ upon. Thank you for all you do.

    Aran,

I remember well when you started your blog. The pastries looked beautiful and perfectly perfect. Like they were out of a fairy’s hands. With the years your work has evolved to something that’s not just beautiful and perfect but truly dreamy. And in sort of a paradoxical way I find your cooking more earthy now then ever before. It has been greatly inspiring to see how you’ve accepted (and revolutionize!) gluten-free baking and cooking, changing both your family and some many people’s life.

And last but not least, your photography is stunning. You’ve created a unique voice for yourself. Congratulations!

  347. Hi Aran, I have never seen such great detail of photography for food items. In I can see from other comments that everybody likes your pictures soooo much!

I am glad I am in London now and I have the chance to go to Antropologie shops which in my Country (Italy) there aren’t and see where some of your inspiring tableware comes from.
Well, I am writing to much, but it’s for let you know that you deserve this success and you make us happy. Keep doing it, please ;)
Thank you, even if I don’t win your book ;)

  371. Susan says:

Congratulations on the book. This is wonderful news.

What have I loved? Everything, of course, but especially:

I have added ingredients to my weekly cooking list that I might have not a few years ago. I love the photographs, of course. I really enjoy reading about the trips you’ve taken, esp. to France (where I went to university). I always come here to find a twist on ingredients, dishes that I might have known but just haven’t made or not in a long, long time.

I have recently begun to lose weight & to have variations & tastes that are not tired is a must for me; it keeps me going. So you are a big inspiration in this way, too.

    xoxo

i’m not good at talking about my feelings so it’s kind of hard to tell the others whats really inside my heart and that’s why i just follow and try to avoid leaving comments as much as i can.
your storytelling, your pictures and your recipes always take me back in time when i was once little walking through fields and mountains that surrounding my home. so yes what i see in your blog is my childhood memories, wildflowers, freshness, nature and different trees.

  373. Andrea says:

    Hi Aran,
A friend of mine sent me a link to your site 3 years ago…we would talk about food and baking all the time…he was an avid follower of yours and he thought I would get a lot out of your blog as I love to bake. He was right! The first post I saw of yours was churros and hot chocolate…I was hooked!
Over the past few years I have been influenced by your gluten free recipes as so many of my friends are gluten intolerant…your recipes have been a great source of information for me and your story of self healing through food is a guiding force in how I cook and eat today. Thank you for sharing your stories with us and congratulations on the publication of your cookbook!

  374. Casey says:

What I love about your blog is that you have not let being GF affect the food culture you have created for your family. My son and I are allergic to wheat, actually he is allergic to more than a dozen foods, but I have tried very hard to create a rich culinary life for him, so he doesn’t feel deprived. He even wants to be a chef when he grows up! Your beautiful blog shows that you can eat well and love food no matter what restrictions you are faced with.

  375. melinaphotos says:

Oh Aran, what beauty and humility and light and happiness in your work. I love every bit of it, and look forward to leafing through the pages of your book. I hope to see you when you are in New York next (though I may be moving for work, myself…). I am dizzy with how you manage to keep up with it all – along with your two delightful children and – no doubt – fantastic husband! Thank you for sharing all these pieces.

  376. Elvira P. says:

Hello, I like very much your blog.
I’ m a mum of two girls (3 and 9) and I start cooking only after they were born. I’m from a little village in north of Portugal, and for a long time I didn’t care about food. After my first child, I started to become interested in healthy food. Two years ago I found your blog…Since then I ‘ve been experimenting the recipes…This summer , after some health problems, I was reading an article about gluten, and decided to try a gluten free diet. Well, you know, I felt so much better…Fantastic how things puzzled. I was following your blog because it was beautiful, with interesting ingredients but I discover I should be gluten free too! I learn to look to fresh ingredients with love and see their beauty. It is very important for me to belong to this global community! Congratulations for the book!

  377. Shalene says:

Even though my family is not GF, I enjoy experimenting with various flours and cooking methods and have come to trust your blog as a fantastic resource for delightful GF recipes that never fail to inspire. And your images … don’t even get me started! They are absolutely stunning!

  378. Laura says:

First of all, congratulations!!! What a huge achievement!

Secondly, thank you so much for this blog. I love to bake, and when I was told not to eat gluten last January I missed ritual of baking so so much. You have shown me how it is still possible to make things that are delicious and beautiful and gluten free, not just shadows of their glutinous partners. I’m sure many other people have had the same epiphany using your recipes. My fingers are crossed that I am selected .. either way I look forward to exploring the book!

  379. Rachel says:

    Dear Aran,
As many have said before me, your blog is for a constant source of inspiration. Every picture evokes its own universe, that is so pure, delicate and delicious. You have inspired me to start taking pictures of my own and you are truly a “virtual mentor” in a way.

    Much love,
    Rachel from Montreal

  380. Camille says:

I love how your blog makes GF cooking SO attractive. Congrats for the book :)

  381. LaToya S. says:

I love your blog because you made me and my husband love gluten free food and we don’t even have a gluten allergy! Nowadays I find myself eating less gluten because of your blog, which is a good thing because this change in my diet has given us much more energy. Who would’ve guessed that’s all I needed to do in order to have more energy?! Thank you.

  382. Congratulations! I have been reading your blog for years and was initially drawn to it because of your gorgeous photographs. Through the years I’ve enjoyed the peeks into family, travel and beautiful food. I love that you make GF foods look so beautiful.

Hi Aran – your story gives hope… it shows that someone can develop his dreams step by step. A while back, I looked at your first posts and was amazed by the development of your style, work and fotography.

Inspired by you – and working in IT as a Psychologist during daytime – I am now more and more following my true passions envolving around delicious, organic and healthy ood, styling, design and fotography. I have taken a few courses in fotography, am testing recipies, have started looking at various blog (website) possibilities, have done a few test posts and will soon start my own blog… And with passion and dedication… who knows if not someone elses dream also might come true… :)

I wish you all the best and thanks for your inspirations, Christine

  387. Amy Kleger says:

Aran, Inspiration is not the only word I would use to explain what your blog is to me. Your consistant amazing photographs are an encouragement and a beauty. Your recipes not only are photographed with style, they are perfectly balanced and include a wide variety of seasonal produce and colours. I love browsing through your website and getting ideas of what to make for picnics, lunch, dinner, breakfast and parties! I love your macarons and that is how I initially found your blog, but your blog is way more than perfect, colourful and tasty macarons. Your blog has helped me have the confidence to bake gluten free and experiment with dairy free also. Thanks so much for all of your wisdom and knowledge that you share with us all. We love following, Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your life. All the best for your book release! Amy

  390. HannahBeth says:

    Hi!
Wow, 388 comments before mine! I’m probably restating what everyone has said already, but that’s okay! :)
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your blog before, I’m a bit of a wallflower when it comes to these things! I’ve been reading your blog for about a year, and was immediately captivated by the ‘complicated simplicity’ of it. All of you recipes look feasible, some simple, even. They make my mouth water as you describe a bit of your current life-happenings along with a recipe. The photography and food arrangement make me both envious and inspired. I love how everything is so fresh; rustic with a dash of elegance. My heart pitter-pattered a bit extra when I saw that you were in the middle of composing a cookbook.

I adore everything about your blog. And I thank you for sharing the opportunity to recieve a copy for free.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I have been enjoying the recipes for gluten free baked goods, as I’ve been trying to modify my diet to avoid wheat. And then I also love the photographs of Vermont; I used to live there, and I just love that place. Your pictures capture what I remember and do it so well. Thanks!

Unlike so many others, I can’t say I’ve always read your blog. I discovered it today reading a beautiful piece on Sprouted Kitchen who baked one of your recipes. It allowed them to slow down and deal with a family member’s cancer. A recipe, just a simple recipie, can bring that much feeling and emotion to someone…and creating them I can only imagine must be even greater. Making someone smile is hard to do. I’m glad I discovered your blog.

  402. Julia says:

Your blog has certainly been an inspiration; even though I have not cooked anything gluten-free yet, I certainly developed an interest for more “natural” food and have made some small changes to my regular diet. I love not only the recipes you post, but also your food styling -it has helped me realise that simple things can be extremely beautiful. Besides, I’ve always loved the way your kids get involved with cooking and food. I’m about to become a mom for the first time -I’m almost 37 weeks pregnant- and I would love to instil a love of nature and natural food into my children. Your blog and your recipes have certainly contributed to that.
    Congratulations on your book!
    Julia, from Córdoba, Argentina.

  403. Debby Crowley says:

I first found you when I saw the article about you,”Bask Country”, in Everyday Food back in July 2011. In fact, I emailed you to find out where to purchase the cool spoons that you were using and still use! I followed your blog from then until now. Your recipes inspire me to eat healthy and your plates, bowls, utensils, etc. make eating even more fun! Presentation, as in all of your photos, is an important part of the meal. Congrats on your new book and keep up the wonderful inspiring recipes, stories and photos ! Cannot wait to get your new book! It is on my Christmas wish list !

    Bonjour Aran,

  423. Christopher R Roach Jr says:

The truth is that I haven’t followed your blog in the past but it was recently recommended to me by a friend. I follow a good bit of food blogs and look forward to reading yours on a regular basis. Your book would be a fine addition to the collection of cook books I’m collecting. Thanks for the opportunity!

  424. Hillary says:

There is something exquisite that happens when a recipe – which in detail is nothing but laborious, requiring painstaking precision and a seemingly supernatural sense of time management – begins to beckon shouts of courage and calls to a joyous undertaking.
Your Brioche and Burnt Milk breakfast is stunning. Words of praise seem insufficient.

Thank you for sharing your keen eye, years of expertise and heart for creating, sharing, and learning. It is a magnificent treat to visit.

  425. Hillary says:

*** I should not mean to dismiss that I absolutely adore the majority of recipes that are beautifully simple and precise in their careful pairings. There is certainly something extra to be said for those which challenge us, but I am eternally thankful for the simply intentional in the every day

  426. Radka says:

I have enjoyed watching you grow so much. The evolution of your style is amazing. And your blog is the one I visit day after day and it always gives a warm feeling inside. Thank you!

  427. Jade Bertaud says:

    Dear Aran,
I love coming to your website to be nurtured and joyously filled with inspiration. I love that your blog is about more than beautiful and tasty food, but it’s about life. And when I come here, I can just breathe in the movement and beauty of life, through the colors, the light, the seemingly delicious foods inspired by nature’s gifts and purity, the love and simple moments shared with your family, or the appreciation of the nature that surrounds us, beautiful natural surroundings and animals. There’s a true spirit of “sharing” that resides here, something authentic, simple, and yet so invigorating. I can feel the European way of sharing and living these little intimate moments of simple happiness gathered with loved ones, beautifully married with the openness and great adventurousness that can be experienced in the States. Yours is a great journey to witness and to take a part in, as we do feel so invited. Vibrant luminosity meets the peaceful flow, a union we all aspire to. Thank you for sharing with us :).

  428. Catharine Brand says:

  438. Your pictures, definitely. Even if they take some time to download, it’s worth the wait.

It all starts with the photos for me, being a rather visual person, they real me in and keep me here, perusing, salivating, selecting recipes and reading your stories before I gather up my bowl, spoon, whisks and scales to set about cooking something delicious, that just so happens to be gluten free. You inspire me simply to be who I am when I cook (and photograph) and to share those delicacies with my loved ones.

After my daughter was born it was often a challenge to get food in the house let alone on the table. Reading your blog reminded me of the simple and wonderful meals my mother would serve and got me back into the kitchen. Uncomplicated but beautiful and delicious.

  441. Julia says:

Your blog shows me that food can be so much more than pure nutrition with the right products, your story and what you see in it! Thanks!

  442. Jaso Molia says:

Your post makes me want to create a blog about food, too! I know some Chinese dishes. :)

    Hello Aran,

I first stumbled across your blog several years ago now, and since then you have not only been a source of enormous inspiration to me, but you have given me the confidence and excitement to try techniques and recipes I would never have dreamed of, how to mix and match components of different recipes to create something glorious, and more than anything, you have made me feel like a little pastry chef in my tiny kitchen in Perth, Australia. I think I cook something from your repertoire on at least a weekly basis! You have turned my cooking into quick and healthy, yet oh so boring meals into creations of utmost love, care and attention. In fact, one entremet, macaron and tart at a time, you may just have changed my life. There are no words to let you know just how grateful I am. Thank you so much Aran, and a huge congratulations on your book!

    Aran,

I have been reading your blog for years but it took on new meaning for me recently after I was told I have IBS. I have been a lover of food and cooking since early childhood and am learning to continue to embrace this passion as I look for ways to nourish my body and its changing needs. I find the way you approach having and cooking for special dietary needs. It is amazingly creative and yet simple. Unlike the diet friendly foods of the past (meaning dietary needs not diet as in weight loss diet) there is nothing “missing” from your recipes. Your writing style is welcoming and unapologetic without veering towards fanatical and I think that is what makes your recipes so approachable. I would love to have a copy of your new book. With all of the lifestyle changes I have had to adopt recently I have had to cut out some of the little luxuries (like book and clothes shopping.) This would be such a wonderful treat and a great weapon to add to my arsenal in cooking for my family in a way which accomodates my IBS but which still embrases the beauty of food.

    Thanks for considering me!

  449. Ines de Asis says:

I lived in gloomy Scotland for a few years and during more difficult times, I was really very grateful for the sun-bright pictures and fresh flavors you offered regularly. (Sometimes Scottish food can be as gloomy as the weather…) I’ve always appreciated the comfort of food that is simple, honest, and creative and I love the healthy dose of beauty that comes with your recipes too. It was like getting an Anthropologie catalogue for foodies. Meanwhile, as I have a Basque and Spanish background, so many of the recipes were familiar to me but lost in years of moving all over the place. It was nice to know I could find an excellent version of churros or arroz con leche in one place!

I am very happy for you that your efforts have culminated in a highly anticipated cookbook and hope that things continue in this way for you. Thanks again!

  450. Asne says:

I like the enjoyment of everyday life that’s present in all your posts, not to mention your great photography skills.

  451. Ellie says:

I am encouraged by the way you have embraced the tradition of your upbringing and effortlessly incorporated the somewhat recent development of a gluten-free lifestyle.

Your photos are inspiring in and of themselves, and the narratives that go along with your pictures and recipes keep me coming back for more every day!

Thank you for sharing all this beauty with us.

Your site is absolutely stunning… and peaceful. I love that.

I don’t remember how I came upon your website – it was surely following comments from another food blog =) but I do remember waking my husband up to tell him about your site! The series of events leading up to it were special to me: That Friday I was missing my grandmother terribly. She has Alzheimers and when I visit her these days she speaks mostly in Euskara, which I do not speak. Saturday I was at the library as they put the book Guernica, by Dave Boling up on on display… I grabbed it and read it that weekend and so badly wished that my husband and boys could know the beauty of the Basques! Sunday my dad stopped by after cleaning out my grandparents storage unit and gave me two “rustic” pieces of art that hung in my great-grandmothers home when my g-ma was growing up. They are from the Old Country and go perfectly in a wall space that I have not filled for 3 years b/c I couldn’t find the right thing! We had recently switched to a gluten free diet… and when I found your site that night, I believe it was the first GF recipe you had shared… Your photography and writing just filled me that night. I thank you!! (Is it silly to be so emotional when discovering a new food blog?? =)

my sister has suffered from candida and yeast overgrowth for years and in the beginning i struggled to adjust my way of thinking about food to accommodate her new needs and restrictions. the rest of the family resisted cooking in a way that she could enjoy as well…

as well as being all around full of aesthetic and culinary inspiration, your blog has guided me to many amazing recipes that my whole family enjoys. you’ve made believers out of this family of skeptics! and i think all of us are benefiting from less gluten in our lives, i know i feel great!

Reading your path to full strength, the journey food, faith in making changes, and conviction that reaching your greatest strength and health does not necessitate sacrifice and misery, has been a joy to share. I am familiar with auto immune problems and serious ill health since my teenage years, and now as a mother of 2 (soon to be 3), tiny tots, I have no time for exhaustion and ill health, and your beautiful approach to cooking, your children, and the celebration of the beautiful simplicity of life, have inspired me anew! I thank you for this gift.

  463. Annie Pathil says:

Darn! Just missed the deadline for your fabulous book giveaway!

I only just started subscribing to Whole Living a couple of months ago and that’s where I found the article written about your blog and upcoming book. I’m so impressed with the beauty of the photography as well as the interesting and unique ingredients you are using !

I’ve been GF for 3 years but have never attempted any GF baking at home. Somehow seemed like an overwhelming task to take on and have relied on health food store ready made items.

It was the article about you that made me feel excited and courageous enought to finally want to venture into this unknown GF , especially baking, terrain at home!!!

    Thank you kindly!!!!

  467. Why do I love your blog? Why do I find it inspiring?

I would consider myself silly to try to identify a single reason. There are so many!

The colors, flavors, recipes, adventures and stories are all so special and near to my heart!

I would just like to let you know that you and your blog helped me to decide of what I want to study and eventually dedicate my life to – the second love of my life – FOOD.

Therefore, I would also like to thank you for this crucial inspirational fragment that turned my life upside down. It might not have happened without you and your blog.

Congratulations and good luck in the future!
