I am so excited to announce that Nadia and I will be partnering this Spring to teach a food and lifestyle photography workshop in Tuscany, Italy.

A 5-day workshop where we will explore the Tuscan nature and food culture.

We will stay at Agriturismo Cantagrillo, visit local markets, olive groves, and meet artisans. We will discuss our food and prop styling philosophy and approach, the basics of food photography, working with natural light and telling a story through images.

Lastly, just a reminder that I will be in Boston this weekend promoting “Small Plates and Sweet Treats”, which is doing really well. Did you read the New York Times story? They referred to my book as “hearty, inventive fare so marvelously presented and festive that few would guess it’s free of (gluten)”. So pleased with those words…

Saturday, December 8th I will be at Tatte Cambridge from 4-6pm with a food styling demo and book signing.

Sunday, December 9th at Eat Boutique Holiday Market from 1-3pm for a book signing.

Hope to see you there!

This one I might make as it’s a shortish flight to Pisa for me from Malta, the nearest useful airport I think. Fingers x’d! Just checking my time zone conversion: 09.00 eastern time is 15.00 CET?

    Hi Aran,
What an incredible place for your food styling course in Italy. Tuscany is our favourite place, and we have been to Vinci twice (having a friend with a Casa not far away.) You must get time to look at the Leonardo exhibition in the Castle at Vinci – what an incredible man.
Would have loved to come on your Italian course but unfortunately we are moving house in the UK, and will have a lot to do. Going to create a small orchard with a wild-flower meadow, another Kitchen Garden, an Autumn garden an (hopefully) an outside kitchen. So maybe the year after I will be free to learn some of your amazing skills. But have a wonderful time in Vinci.
    Regards, Astrid.

  9. I was just about to get totally lost in your fabulous book (thank you amazon for the super fast delivery!), my eyes are still full of your incredible post about your last workshop in France, and now this.. a workshop just a couple of hours from home? I’ll try to save some money for it, really hope to be able to make it.. in a worst case scenario, I might just pop up to say hello and get my book signed! would be really great, keeping my finger crossed and my wallet sealed in the meantime..

  10. Attending a workshop in Tuscany with you would be a dream come true. I so wish I could. The photography you posted above are beautiful. As always Aran. You will always impress me.

By the way, your book is gorgeous. I read it from cover to cover. Loved it. Your presence is on every page. It is warm, friendly, well written, beautiful photography and creative recipes. I will soon be cooking the recipes from the book. I am eager to start.
I would give the book an A+++

  11. La Toscana, what a gorgeous place to do a course, everything about it is inspiring and your photography is just beautiful! Good luck with it and if I can save enough pennies I’m there

    Dear Aran,
So happy for the new location!!!
    Two questions if I may…
    1. Is the program the same as in Sweeden in terms of cooking?
The amount of cooking and photographing/styling remains the same?
    2. Are there any other plans for other workshops in Europe in 2013?

Thank you so much for inspiring all of us!!

  14. Imen says:

    Ooooh sounds dreamy Aran…….xx

  15. Dena says:

    Aran:
This workshop looks amazing! I wish I could say I could be there, but alas I don’t think I can get away from my family at that time. I have set a goal for myself, though, to make it to one of these fabulous retreats sooner rather than later!

It was wonderful to meet you yesterday at the Tatte Bakery & Cafe in Cambridge. I learned lots, not the least of which is that the warmth you exude on Cannelle et Vanille is genuine and real, that you talented and gifted at what you do. Thank you so much! I followed up the event by reading the New York Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/05/dining/gluten-free-dishes-become-a-lot-more-tempting.html?pagewanted=all). Lovely to see you mentioned there! And, I have a mandolin on order! Great cooking/styling tip.

Enjoy the remainder of your time in Boston, and safe travels home to Florida when you are ready to head back down south. Dena

    • Aran says:

Thanks so much for coming to the signing yesterday Dena. It was a pleasure to finally meet you and glad you enjoyed it. Maybe you can join us in a workshop next time. xo

  16. Liya says:

Dear Aran, I know you are not originally from Catalunya, but do you happen to either have yourself or can give a hint where to find a good, traditional recipe for Panellets? Is coco a genuin ingredient? I seem to find only fancy-schmancy modern adaptations of the wonderful, gluten-free sweets… I know they are not very sophisticated, but heavenly none the less… Best, Liya p.s. Love your work!

  17. Katya says:

So happy I got to meet you today at Eat Boutique. Your book is lovely and that shortbread was fantastic! Can’t wait to be inspired by it and your blog too.

  18. Dianne says:

Just came across your blog. Beautiful! Thank you.

  19. AWESOME!!! These photos only show how it has been well taken as a high quality class result… Two thumbs up!!!

    Hi Aran,

This workshop does sound super interesting. Does one need to have a certain photography experience to join and benefit or is it also suitable for a complete beginner like myself?

    • Aran says:

      Dalia,

Our workshops are suited for beginners as we discuss basics of phptpgraphy, camera settings… it is very much about learning from us but there is also lots of hands on time. You will get to watch us work and then you will get to practice under our guidance.

      Hope that answered your question!

    Hi Aran,

Your work is just beautiful. I adore this blog. Attending the workshop in Tuscany would be a dream. I am an Aussie with Italian heritage and love getting back to Italy.

Can you please let me know if the registration is based on any criteria or if it is a case of first in best dressed?

Thank you for sharing your work and this opportunity with us.

  24. Hi Aran,

I just stumbled upon your site on the web and I have to say it is absolutely gorgeous. Your trip sounds right up my alley. I love Italy, I love food, I am gluten free, a health coach and photography is one of my passions. I saw the course is sold out .. wishing you much success with it and I am hoping that you will offer another one like this in the near future.

    Happy New Year!

  25. Hi Aran, wow what a great blog.
I have become a fan now!
Your photography and wonderful food styling is top top!
I will definitely look into buying your book, and one day if I can afford it, your work shop as well!
I have started a small food blog myself, but yours is such an inspiration.
    Take care, Andy
